This large focal bead is an oval with a larger hole running lengthwise.  It measures 1 1/2 inches long by 3/4 across at the widest point.  This would make an excellent companion piece to MOKB201 or MOKB202 bead sets. 

The ancient art of Mokume Gane was used in making samurai swords by melding metal alloys in combination with the base metal.  In addition to stregthening the sword handle, a side benefit of this mixing of metals was the creation of beautiful patterns in the metal.  This technique translates beautifully in polymer clay.  This set of beads was made by layering black, gold, cream and translucent polymer clay and also includes gold leaf.  Once layered, the clay is then compressed, cut and restacked, then compressed again.  Various tools and implements are impressed into the clay to create the patterns. Then very thin slices are cut from the stack and applied to the tube bead core. After the beads are cured and cooled, the finishing steps include tumbling, sanding, buffing and a final finish with a sealer that protects and enhances the beauty of the beads.
